Bellator’s Featherweight Tournament Takes Shape

Bellator Fighting Championships is undoubtedly going to be one of the most interesting promotions to watch in 2010, and after slowly drip-feeding information out over the past few months we finally have the first round fixtures for their featherweight (145lb) tournament.

The tournament is just one of four that are scheduled for Bellator’s second season which begins on April 8th and will broadcast live on Fox Sports Net. The other tournaments will be held in the 155, 170 and 185lb categories.

kicking off the competition will be highly regarded greco-roman wrestler Joe Warren who is entering into the second featherweight tournament of his brief MMA career after reaching the final of DREAM’s Grand Prix last year.

He takes on Eric Marriott who has considerably more experience with 19 fights under his belt, and is currently on a nine fight win-streak – with all of those wins taking place in 2009!

Meanwhile former pro-soccer player Georgi Karakhanyan brings an impressive 12-1-1 record to the cage when he takes on experienced campaigner Bao Quach, who’s 17-9-1 record doesn’t look as impressive at first glance, but it should be noted that he’s been beaten only once in his last twelve fights.

See below for the complete list of fixtures for the opening round of the tournament.

April 8th

Joe Warren (2-1) vs. Eric Marriott (17-2)

Georgi Karakhanyan (12-1-1) vs. Bao Quach (17-9-1)

April 15th

Wilson Reis (9-1) vs. Shad Lierley (5-2)

Patricio Pitbull (12-0) vs. William Romero (5-0)
