The UFC today officially confirmed that former champions BJ Penn and Matt Hughes will fight of a third time in the co-main event of UFC 123 in November.
In a new video blog on BJPenn.com the Hawaiian admits a chance to settle the score once and for all with Hughes was to hard to resist.
“Dana offered me a fight a couple days ago, on Sunday, because he said the lightweight guy that I was gonna fight was hurt, he couldn’t take the fight so Dana offered me a fight I couldn’t resist,” Penn said.
The bout will require Penn to once again make the climb back up to welterweight at relatively short notice after a prolonged spell at lightweight, but that doesn’t seem to be something that concerns him.
“I’m 165 pounds right now. I didn’t go out since my last fight, just came back and kept training so I’m in shape. I’m gonna keep trying to train as hard as I can and make whatever adjustments to my training schedule and my camp. That’s about it. Dana offered me a fight I couldn’t refuse so I’m gonna take it.”
