After his shock loss to Frankie Edgar, former lightweight champion BJ Penn wasn’t interviewed in the octagon as is usually customary on these occasions.
The Hawaiian did however post a video blog on his own website at bjpenn.com from his hotel room later on. Here’s what he had to say.
“I wanna thank everybody. Thank the fans, thank the trainers, thank my family, thank everybody who supported me over the years.
“I wanna congratulate Frankie Edgar, he fought a great fight tonight. Congratulations, he’s the new champ.”
“That’s about it. I wanna thank everybody for their support. I’m on my way back to Hawaii, but I gotta stop in the mainland and do a book tour in New York and San Diego and L.A I think for a little bit. So that’s my schedule right now but I’ll keep you guys posted on what’s going on with me. I wanna thank everybody for your support again.”
Penn avoided talking about the fight itself or the judges decision despite the decision being somewhat controversial with some people believing that he had won the fight.
The 31 year old had been contemplating a move up to 170lbs prior to this fight, but after this defeat Penn’s plans for the future are now shrouded in mystery.
