Bob ‘The Beast’ Sapp will no longer be appearing on this weekend’s Impact FC 2 event in Sydney, Australia, though the exact reason why is still somewhat shrouded in mystery.

According to Sapp, who’s been busy playing a baddie in a Hollywood remake of ‘Conan The Barbarian’ currently shooting in Bulgaria, the promotion emailed him today to inform him they were no longer going to use him because his flight was too expensive.

“We had all the paperwork completed,” Sapp tells MMAJunkie.

Naturally Impact FC promoter Tom Huggins had a different version of events when he spoke to later in the day.

“For three weeks, we tried to get Bob to commit to flight dates and sign a contract. He never actually signed the contract we sent him weeks ago…We needed to have this stuff taken care of weeks ago. You get on the phone with Bob, and two hours later, nothing gets accomplished…You can’t just get three plane tickets out of Sofia, especially for Bob Sapp. He’s 350 pounds; he can’t fly coach. Getting all the right connecting flights out of Bulgaria can’t just be done last minute.

“The tickets were getting more expensive, but it was never a price issue. Bob was actually very reasonable about money. It was the logistics and time. None of this would’ve been an issue if he wasn’t in Bulgaria. That made the logistics really hard: there were major visa issues for these guys coming to Australia, they had to be consulate-issued. We just weren’t getting the help we needed from Bob to get it done properly.”

I won’t lie, I’m not exactly shedding a tear over the fact that Sapp won’t be appearing on the card considering that his idea of fighting these days appears to be getting hit repeatedly and then curling up into the fetal position sometime within the first round.

In his place to fight Soa Palelei will come the Australian Brad Morris who hasn’t stepped into the cage since leaving the UFC after going 0-2 in 2008.  He had originally been slated to fight Jeff Monson at last week’s Impact FC event but pulled out due to illness.
