Former WWE pro-wrestler Bobby Lashley recently signed a deal with Shark Fights, and he’ll take the next step in his MMA career when he takes on Darrill Schoonover for the promotion’s heavyweight title.

If the name sounds familiar then that’s because Schoonover was a former participant in The Ultimate Fighter season 10 in which he was infamously teased by Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson who was serving as a coach on the show.

He was KO’d by Marcus Jones in the quarter-finals of TUF and was then cut from the UFC after suffering a TKO loss to James McSweeney in the season finale. Since then his form has hit rock bottom, losing a further four fights in a row, though he finally got a win under his belt in July to improve his career record to 11-5.

So, on paper this isn’t a big challenge for Lashley, but the reality is that his own performances in the cage has left a lot to be desired. He lost to the at-the-time unknown Chad Griggs in Strikeforce last year after appearing to gas out in the second round leading to a verbal submission on his stool, while his only fight since then, a decision win over John Ott at Titan FC 17 also left more questions than answers about his abilities both mentally and physically as a fighter.

Lashley will however be able to take the first step towards proving his critics wrong when the two men meet on November 11th.
