Rising boxing star Gervonta Davis has claimed that he is interested in fighting in the UFC.
The 23-year-old Davis is the current IBF super featherweight (130lb) titleholder and will also fight for the WBA belt in April. He holds a perfect 19-0 record in the ring, 18 of which came by way of knockout and is a member of Floyd Mayweather’s Money Team, competing on the undercard of the Mayweather Vs McGregor PPV last year.
“I think I want to fight in the UFC,” Davis wrote yesterday on Twitter, provoking a swift response from a number of stars of the Octagon.
One of the first to reply was up and coming bantamweight Brian Kelleher, who just defeated Renan Barao last month.
“What weight class in the @ufc you lookin at?” Kelleher enquired.
“Any one ill beat all y’all ass,” Davis responded.
“Better work on that wrestling defense. I can show you it’ll be a fun time #boomtime,” Kelleher fired back. “Tell ya what you come over to this side and I’ll come over to your side after. Sounds fair to me.”
Sean O’Malley also managed to provoke a response from the boxer.
“3-4 years I’ll be bustin up @Gervontaa in a super fight. @danawhite @ufc,” the 10-0 O’Malley wrote.
“3-4 years I be knocking ya ass out if you ever try me,” Davis responded.
Other fighters who were quick to signal their interest in the fight included Cub Swanson, Jimmie Rivera and Conor McGregor’s teammate Dillon Dannis, who claimed a match-up between them would be, “easy money.”
Not every UFC fighter was taking Davis’ claim so seriously though.
“You can become a comedian too,” featherweight champion Max Holloway told Davis alongside a collection of laughing emoji’s.
