One of boxing’s leading female fighters Holly Holm has announced she’s retiring from the sport to concentrate on her MMA career.
Holding an impressive boxing record of 32-2-3 spread over an 11 year period, the 31 year-old Holm is an 18-time champion, winning titles at three different weight classes and is the current WBF woman’s light-welterweight and welterweight champion of the world.
Holm also has experience as a kickboxer though and has fought three times in MMA professionally, including once for the Bellator promotion, winning each by either TKO or KO.
Interestingly, today’s announcement means that Holm will effectively be turning her back on what’s reported to have been a six-figure sum to fight undefeated WBA, WBC and WBO welterweight champion Cecilia Brækhus (22-0).
Holm just happens to fight at 135lbs so it could well be that she has her eye on a move to the UFC, and it’s hard to see a reason why the promotion wouldn’t want someone of her reputation and caliber involved unless her pay demands are too excessive.
