Following his win over Gabriel Gonzaga last month Brendan Schaub immediately named former heavyweight champion Frank Mir as the man he wanted to face next.

Since then Frank Mir has gone out of his way to confirm that the feeling is mutual, doing so again at the tail end of last week during an appearance on the Inside MMA show.

“From what I understand my name was brought up in that post-fight conference and I think he’s a good athlete. He doesn’t hit particularly hard, I think that he’s a busy worker. I’ve got Forrest Griffin as a training partner I think who actually mimics – you know he’s a way more technical version than he is – but that non-stop throwing punches and a lot of movement I think would help set up actually a good fight, and maybe that would set up one more victory under my belt and that would solidify a better shot at the Brock thing.”

Schaub responded to Mir’s comments yesterday on MMA Sucka radio.

““I say lets do it! After the UFC 121 fight against Gonzaga they asked me who I wanted to fight. I said if it was up to me I’d fight Frank Mir. That’s not an easy fight by any means. I grew up a huge fan of Frank Mir, but I’m not the type of guy who will hug and hold hands in the cage. The way I show respect is to get in there and put an ass whooping on him.”

So, with Dana White now conceding that his initial plan to pair up Mir with Brock Lesnar for a third time may not happen due to many fans voicing their disaproval it seems that there is once again momentum behind the Mir Vs Schaub bandwagon.
