Immediately following Brock Lesnar’s loss to Cain Velasquez at UFC 121 I wrote that a third fight with Frank Mir was now the most likely option for him.
Since then there’s been suggestion that may not be the case with reports emerging that Lesnar was intersted in fighting Roy Nelson, while Frank Mir stated earlier this week that he wanted Brendan Schaub next instead.
Today Dana White dismissed those rumors and confirmed that Lesnar Vs Mir 3 could well be on the cards.
“He never asked for Roy Nelson, that’s not true,” White tells the FightersOnly site. “The last thing I did hear was that he wants to fight Frank Mir again. That fight kind of makes sense so… We will probably see Lesnar fight Mir next, I think that the rubber match makes sense.”
Despite these statements the interesting point to note is that White doesn’t appear to be in a position to know exactly sure what Lesnar wants right now.
“After the fight Brock took some time off to go hunting; he and I haven’t spoken since the fight so I’m not sure what he wants to do next.”
One potential opponent that he’s definitely not going to be stepping into the cage against next is the man who just wrenched the heavyweight title from his grasp.
“There won’t be an immediate rematch, there is no need for one,” White confirmed.
