On Thursday UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez underwent surgery for a torn rotator cuff injury.

Thankfully the surgery was successful and he can now begin the long road to recovery after this serious injury. Clearly eager to begin the process, Velasquez told fans on twitter today that he’s already back in the gym.

“Surgery went well. Back at Joe Grasso’s lifting legs . Best place to train.”

Velasquez is well known for having a strong work ethic so it’s not too big of a surprise to hear he’s already getting back in shape, but bear in mind it’s going to be some time before he can begin training his upper body and return to even the basics like shadow boxing, etc.

It’s still anticipated that he’ll require several months to rehabilitate, and then of course at least a couple of months to prepare for his first title defense as champion.

As revealed last week, when he does eventually return he’ll face the winner of TUF 13 coaches Brock Lesnar Vs Junior Dos Santos who are set to fight in June.
