After claiming the UFC’s heavyweight title from Brock Lesnar on Saturday night Cain Velasquez is man’s who’s star is very much on the rise.

No longer just the talk of the MMA media, in the past 24 hours Velasquez has been pushed into the mainstream spotlight where tales of the fighter defeating a real-life giant to become Mexico’s first heavyweight champion can be appreciated by more than just fight fans.

On Monday afternoon Velasquez was the special guest on TMZ Live, and judging from the reaction of host Harvey Levin later on twitter, the fighter’s laid back manner came across well.

“Had @cainmma on TMZ live today….he was awesome. The most zen fighter I have talked to.” – TMZ’s Harvey Levin

Later Velasquez was on the set of ‘Lopez Tonight’ looking very much the champion in a sharp suit. During the show he celebrated his win with a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and a glass of milk, a reference to Lesnar who said he’d celebrate his win with a burrito and a Carona.

This is all good news for both Cain and the UFC. Realistcally Velasquez doesn’t have the attention grabbing, dynamic persona of the man he displaced at the top of the division, but his polite, well spoken and humble personality comes across well to a mainstream audience and helps lend credibility to the sport as a result.
