In his last octagon outing Cain Velasquez proved he was the real deal by defeating legendary heavyweight fighter Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira to take his unbeaten record to 8-0.

Despite that the heavyweight division’s No.1 contender views his next opponent, current belt holder Brock Lesnar as yet another step up in competition.

“It just feels like every fight the next guy is harder, a lot harder,” he tells Fight Magazine! “I mean every fight the guys ten times better – that’s how I have to approach this fight. Nogueira is Nogueira, but this fight is a whole ‘nother level I think.”

His title clash with Lesnar is now set for UFC 121 on October 23rd and Velasquez was an interested spectator at the champions fight with Shane Carwin earlier this month at UFC 116.

“He [showed that he] has the heart of a true champion, that he can overcome adversity and come back and win,” was the main thing Velasquez took from Lesnar’s performance, though he also hinted he wasn’t overly impressed with the former pro-wrestlers stand-up skills.

Velasquez says he’s training in all aspects of MMA in preparation for the biggest fight of his career, and is preparing to go all five rounds if need be. He also reveals he’s bringing in several D1 wrestlers of Lesnar’s size to help him prepare for his title shot.
