A sure sign that Mixed martial arts fighters are becoming genuine stars is with the number of them who are now being used to front commercials for mainstream brands.

Recently for instance we’ve seen Georges St.Pierre in Gatorade ads, Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson in an Adidas campaign, Chuck Liddell in a Reebok viral spot, and Urijah Faber featuring on a K-Swiss commercial.

The latest fighter to do so perhaps a less obvious choice. Cain Velasquez doesn’t yet have the name recognition of the aforementioned fighters, their years in the sport or their ‘champion’ credentials.

It’s a smart piece of business from Lugz though. Velasquez is a rising star in the sport, and is set to fight for the UFC heavyweight championship in a matter of months. If he wins then that’s perfect for the Lugz brand, but whether he does or not the fight will generate a huge amount of media attention due to the man he’s fighting, Brock Lesnar, who has proven to be the biggest draw in the sport.

He also has the kind of rugged look and lifestyle to fit in with there ‘Built For The Streets’ campaign, and due to the frequent focus on his prominent ‘Brown Pride’ tattoo that Lugz are also hoping to tap into the Hispanic demographic.
