Last week we brought you news of a rumored match-up between Cain Velasquez and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC 110. While it has not been officially confirmed yet, sherdog.com are now reporting various sources as having confirmed that both fighters have agreed to bout.
The most interesting news however appeared to be that Nogueira’s boxing coach Luiz Dorea had revealed they were expecting the fight to be for the interim heavyweight belt.
“He (Nogueira) is expected to fight for the interim belt against Cain Velasquez at UFC 110 in Australia, but that’s not officially confirmed yet,” he said.
Sherdog.com later updated their story to confirm that the Velasquez – Nogueira bout will NOT be for the interim belt. ESPN’s MMA live show are instead reporting that Shane Carwin is likely to face the winner of the February bout to decide an interim champion.
The news reaches us at the same time as Dana White gave fans the latest news on current heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar’s health via twitter.
“Tons of people keep asking me about brock. He is still VERY sick. We are unsure about his future.”
