Carlos Condit proved he’s one of the UFC’s top welterweight talents tonight with an impressive first round victory over the always tough Dong Hyun Kim.

There was no surprise in the fact that Kim was eager to get this fight to the floor, and he did so successfully early in the round.

Normally that would then result in Kim stifling his opponent on the mat, but Condit had other plans and managed to slickly sweep straight into the mount and the action was soon back on it’s feet.

Bouyed by that first exchange on the mat Condit pressed forward confidently and out of nowhere leapt forward with a flying knee that connected cleanly and sent Kim toppling to the floor against the cage. Condit took advantage of his still dazed opponent with a flurry of strikes and it was all over.

This was a very tough test for Condit and after passing with flying colors and putting together another entertaining performance against a quality opponent he’s surely got to be a strong contender for a shot at the welterweight title now.
