The bouts scheduled for UFC 137’s preliminary show on Spike TV have been announced and one of the bouts chosen may raise a few eyebrows.
A lightweight fight between two of the division’s leading contenders Donald Cerrone and Dennis Sivertakes one of the spots on the hour long show alongside the featherweight contest between Tyson Griffin and Bart Palaszewski.
Personally I’m surprised that Cerrone Vs Siver, which could well be a ‘Fight Of The Night’ contender, isn’t being showcased on the main pay-per-view card.
Cerrone has made an immediate impact since crossing over from the WEC at the turn of the year, racking up three wins so far including a first round destuction of promising Brazilian Charles Oliviera last time out.
Meanwhile Siver has strung together a four fight winning streak, and is 7-1 in the UFC since January of 2009, ensuring that the German has quietly worked his way up to within the fringes of the title picture just below the likes of Clay Guida and Ben Henderson.
It may be that the UFC sees this bout as a potential barnburner that could catch people’s eye and encourage them to shell out for the PPV immediately afterwards, but if it was down to me I’d swap this with the debut of Hatsu Hoiki Vs George Roop which is currently occupying the opening slot on the main card.
