Another big fight has been confirmed for the ‘UFC On FOX 2’ event on January 28th, with Chael Sonnen and Mark Munoz set to battle it out in a fight that could determine the next No.1 contender in the middleweight division.
The fight had been rumored for the event for some time, but as recently as this week Sonnen had denied it was going to happen, hinting that he may in fact be in line for a shot at the winner of tonight’s fight between fellow 185lbs contender’s Michael Bisping and Jason ‘Mayhem’ Miller.
However the UFC have now moved to shoot down that rumor by putting out a press release just prior to tonight’s TUF 14 Finale event to confirm that Sonnen Vs Munoz will now join the previously announced main event between Rashad Evans and Phil Davis on the card.
It’s certainly a strong co-main event and bolsters the UFC’s first big FOX event of 2012 considerably. A further two still to be announced fights are also believed to be airing on the two hour live broadcast on the network.
The UFC will hold a press conference this coming Wednesday with the aforementioned fighters to officially discuss the event.
