The UFC On FOX 2 fight card suffered a blow today when co-main event star Mark Munoz pulled out of his fight with Chael Sonnen due to an injury.
The promotion has the perfect solution to this problem however as Michael Bisping, who was originally scheduled to face Demian Maia at the January 28th show, will now step in for Munoz.
In many respects this is actually an upgrade from the originally planned fight as there’s far more heat between Bisping and Sonnen, two of the biggest trash-talkers in the game who have traded verbal blows at each other in the past.
Bisping is the perfect foil for Sonnen who’s knack for winding up his opponents has been somewhat subdued lately due to both his last opponent Brian Stann and Munoz being fighters who he knew and respected.
The only regret many be that there’s a limited amount of time for them to really hype the fight, but nevertheless it’s an enticing match-up and a fitting one for the UFC’s first big FOX show of the year which will be headlined by Rashad Evans Vs Phil Davis.
Bisping has already indicated that he’s happy with the change in opponent, as he should be as the UFC have confirmed that the winner will get a title shot against current middleweight champion Anderson Silva.
“Unlucky for chael sonnen. I’m now fighting him next week. Tune in, jan 28th, fox tv. Fight of the year mofo’s,” Bisping wrote on his Twitter account after the news broke.
