Bellator heavyweight champ Cole Conrad is set to take on his toughest test to date at Bellator 42 when he squares up against former UFC veteran Paul Buentello.

Conrad has so far made short work of his opponents inside the Bellator cage, with the two-time NCAA Division 1 champion using his wrestling prowess to win last seasons heavyweight tournament at a cantor.

The 27 year-old has come under fire for his less than exciting fighting style though, choosing to smother and control his opponents for the most part rather than looking to damage and finish them.

Buentello is a good next step for him, offering the chance to compete against someone with name recognition, someone who’s spent the best part of their career trying to keep his fights standing by any means neccessary, and someone who can provide a real threat if he is successful in keeping the fight off the mat.

It’a also a good fight for Buentello as he’s been struggling just to get paid on time while fighting for smaller promotions since being released from the UFC, and overall it’s the sort of noteworthy matchmaking that adds extra spice to Bellator’s fourth season.
