Strikeforce woman’s 145lb champion Cris ‘Cyborg’ Santos has spent the last year on the sidelines as talks stalled on a new contract with the promotion, but thankfully a deal has finally been made that will keep her in the spotlight where she belongs.

“Cris is ecstatic to be staying under the Zuffa umbrella for another year,” a message from her management states. “She would like to thank Strikeforce and Zuffa for the opportunity to prove she is the best 145lb Woman in the world. Cris has been training and is ready to step back into the cage to defend her Strikeforce belt.”

As yet she doesn’t have an opponent lined up, but she’s expected to fight again sooner rather than later.

The problem for Cyborg has always been that she’s simply too good for the competition that’s on offer in her weight class. The good news is that a couple of potential challengers are starting to emerge, such as her fellow Brazilian Amanda Nunes and former Judo Olympian Ronda Rousey, while there’s also the chance of a second meeting with Gina Carano at some stage in the future.
