Cristiane ‘Cyborg’ Santos is no longer Strikeforce’s woman’s 145lb champion.
Yesterday, just hours after it emerged that Cyborg had tested positive for steroids prior to her latest title defence on December 17th, Dana White was interviewed on ESPN Radio in Las Vegas and confirmed the decision to take her belt.
Not only that, but he also indicated that the shock announcement would likely mark the end of the 145lb weight class.
“We were going to hold that division and just do fights with ‘Cyborg’ whenever there was a new contender,” White stated. “She’s getting stripped of the title. I don’t know. We’ll see what happens.”
In addition to Strikeforce relinquishing her champion status ‘Cyborg’ was also punished by the California State Athletic Commission who suspended her for a year and fined her $2,500.
