At Saturday night’s Strikeforce: Fedor Vs Werdum event, one of the stars who helped make the promotion what it is today, Cung Le, will get his chance to avenge the first loss of his career.

On December 21st Le took on Scott Smith and appeared to be in complete control of the fight before unexpectedly being KO’d in the final round. He admits that it was a learning experience for him.

“There’s a lot of truth when they say that you learn more from your losses than your wins,” the former kickboxer says. On this occasion he learned that staying composed and sticking to the gameplan set out by his corner is crucial, and that getting overly eager to KO Smith in the fight eventually cost him.

The loss was undoubtedly a blow for the fighter who had up until that point been unbeaten in both his kickboxing and MMA career. It appears he’s moved on from that now though and is purely focused on the rematch.

“That was in the past, that was last year. This is a new year and I’m ready to go.”

“I’m very excited about this fight,” he continues. “I’m very thankful that Scott Coker and Strikeforce made this fight happen. I think it’s very exciting, especially with Scott Smith. He’s got a lot of heart, he’s determined and it’s going to be a great fight.”
