It’s official, Strikeforce light-heavyweight champion Dan Henderson has signed a new deal with the UFC.

His return to the Octagon will take place at UFC 139 in November where he will take on another former PRIDE star Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua.

Henderson Vs Shogun is now expected to headline the fight card with Vitor Belfort Vs Cung Le taking the co-main event status, considerable strengthening the overall appeal of the San Jose event.

News of Henderson’s return is not unexpected, with even the fighter himself expressing an interest in returning after he became a free agent following the completion of his Strikeforce deal in July.

In the two years since he left the UFC Henderson has made a significant impact in Strikeforce despite losing to Jake Shields in a 185lb title fight in his debut.

He has since moved back up to 205lbs and gone on to defeat Renato ‘Babalu’ Sobral, then beat Rafael ‘Feijao’ Cavalcante to earn the Strikeforce light-heavyweight title before ending his stint with a memorable first round TKO of Russian superstar Fedor Emelianenko.

At the age of 41 he’s proven he’s still a force to be reckoned with, and a fight against former UFC light-heavyweight champion ‘Shogun’ Rua is undoubtedly a must-see match-up that could have title implications.
