There appears to be no end in sight for the ongoing saga of Dan Henderson’s contract talks if his new interview with Sports Net Canada is to be believed.
“(I) Feel like I’m worth more than what they are offering. I don’t feel like I’m asking for way too much,” he said. “I know that they have signed other deals that are a lot more than what I’m asking for.”
He goes on to say, “I’m always a fair guy and I’m not trying to hold anybody over a barrel, and hold them ransom for anything, but I feel I should be valued more than what they value me at.”
Also, for the first time, he puts a date on when he next expects to fight, though he doesn’t say who he expects to be fighting for.
“Either way I’m pretty confident I’ll be fighting (on) the 1st of February.”
The comments suggest that Henderson may be looking to stand his ground on his contract demands.
Indeed later goes on to say that “I feel like I have been doing well but I am not early in my career and I need to start considering the endgame and I need to be paid towards the end of my career. So yes I would be willing to leave the UFC. But again, I appreciate their position and there are no hard feelings at all. Its just the way it is.”
At the same time, reading between the lines, his answers suggest that he still would prefer to stay with the UFC rather than move to another promotion at this stage in his career.
