UFC president Dana White was all smiles today after it was confirmed that UFC 141’s main event between Alistair Overeem and Brock Lesnar will go ahead as planned after Overeem finally passed a much-delayed pre-fight drugs test.
Last week rumors had spread like wildfire that Overeem was set to pull out of the event after missing the compulsary pre-fight urine test in November, but after a meeting with the Nevada State Athletic Commission to give his side of the story the Dutch fighter was given a conditional license to fight provided he passed two further drugs tests prior to the bout.
Overeem then almost immediately flew from Holland to the UK to take the test and received the results today which confirmed that there were no problems.
That prompted White to post a smiley face on Twitter earlier today, before later confirming, “Overeem is ready to go!!! Lesnar vs Overeem is on!”
The fighter will have to pass one further test upon his rival in the U.S before the fight, but that should now just be a formality.
After having seen 11 of his last 13 main event’s being cancelled due to unforseen circumstances White will no doubt be hugely relieved that the December 30th event now looks set to go off without a hitch.
