We’re now on the verge of the UFC – WEC merger which, in addition to the new bantamweight and featherweight divisions, will also see the two promotions 155lb’ers combining.

The UFC’s lightweight division is already stacked as it is, and the addition of guys like WEC champion Ben Henderson, current No.1 contender Anthony Pettis, Donald Cerrone and Jamie Varner to name but a few is only good news for UFC president Dana White.

“It’s fun, it’s going to be crazy, but that’s what makes for such great fights. It’s a fun division, I’m actually really excited about it,” White tells MMAWeekly.

Of course one of the consequences of having such a rich talent pool is that every fight counts.  If you’re not performing at your best then you could quickly find yourself being handed your walking papers from the promotion.

“It’s a dog eat dog world,” White says “There’s so many good guys out there. You’re literally fighting for your UFC life every time you fight.”

Finding out who sinks and who swims in the bolstered UFC lightweight division is set to be one of the more interesting story-lines of 2011.
