Minutes after Cain Velasquez spectacular win over Brock Lesnar last night the UFC camera’s caught Dana White looking shell-shocked in the background as he waited to put the belt on the new king of the heavyweight division.

The thousand yard stare tells it’s own story as the UFC president no doubt attempts to come to terms with the fact that the UFC’s biggest draw is no longer the champion.

It’s not hard to understand why.  Lesnar is perhaps the only fighter in the sport that can realistically expect to bring in over a million pay-per-view buys when he headlines a card.  He’s also opened up doors for the UFC, with the likes of ESPN being strong supporters of the former champion during his reign.

It’s not all doom and gloom for the UFC though.   Certainly the image of the super-human, indestructible heavyweight champion is no longer applicable, but I think people will still be interested to watch the next chapter in Lesnar’s story, and blockbuster rematches with the likes of Mir, Carwin and Velasquez should still capture MMA fans imaginations.
