Many MMA fans around the world will have been shocked and saddened to see the once dominant Russian star Fedor Emelianenko slump to his second defeat in a row, and hint at retirement.
UFC president Dana White was not one of them however. After the event he responded in typical fashion with a smiley face on his twitter account.
He had infamously posted the same message when Fedor lost to Fabricio Werdum last year.
White had been hounded by fans for years to get Fedor into the UFC, but contract issues and disagreements with the fighter’s management M-1 Global who were demanding co-promotion rights, ensured that the legendary fighter would never set foot in the Octagon.
Clearly he still holds a grudge judging by his next twitter comment directed at M-1 Global’s Vadim Finkelchtein.
“M1 = M done! What did I tell you Vadummy!!”
And he wasn’t quite done sticking the boot in…
“he was INCREDIBLY mismanaged!! Worst management in fight history”
With Fedor hinting at retirement after the fight, White will no doubt also be celebrating the fact that the UFC’s biggest promotional rival’s appear set to lose their biggest star.
