Speculation has been rife over the past few weeks as to who will coach The Ultimate Fighter season 13, but so far there’s been no official word from the UFC.
The good news is that UFC president Dana White today confirmed on twitter that he’ll announce the two coaches this coming week. That’s just as well because he also noted that the show actually begins filming in just two weeks time.
Several heavily rumored pairings for the 13th season have already been ruled out. A possible Chael Sonnen Vs Wanderlei Silva match-up is dead in the water after Sonnen was suspended by the promotion following a mortgage fraud charge.
Meanwhile WEC star Urijah Faber can also be crossed off the list after he was given a fight with Eddie Wineland at UFC 128 in March, as can Miguel Torres who faces Antonio Banuelos next month.
So who does that leave?
Brock Lesnar is still without an opponent so he can’t be ruled out, even though he gives the impression of a person who’d see a stint coaching on TUF with cameras following his every move as a fate worse than death.
The thing is, the two fighters he’s most likely to be paired with – Frank Mir and Roy Nelson – are rumored to be fighting each other at UFC 130 in May. Given the timing that leaves the possibility of Mir and Nelson being the coaches instead.
Though Sonnen is out of the picture I wouldn’t completely rule out Wanderlei Silva still being involved due to a lack of other available options. Potential opponents would include former TUF season 1 fighter Chris Leben or war hero turned fighter Brian Stann.
Beyond that there I can see no obvious alternative unless they re-arrange one of their currently scheduled fights.
Rest assured that when we do finally find out who it is you’ll be the first to know.
