Judging controversy was once again the major talking point emerging from a UFC event at the weekend as Nam Phan appeared to be robbed of victory against Leonard Garcia, losing out by split decision even though many (including one judge) believed he had won all three rounds.

Phan himself was visibly stunned by the decision when it was announced, and later admitted he was, “shocked” at the outcome of his first official UFC fight.

Apparently the UFC also disagreed with the judges as it’s been revealed that Phan was awarded his win bonus after the fight despite his loss.  There was further good news for the TUF 12 cast member when the bout was also awarded ‘Fight Of The Night’, meaning that he goes home with an extra $30,000 bonus in his pocket.

With that in mind it looks as if he’ll also be kept on by the promotion despite also having lost to Michael Johnson in the semi-finals of the TUF show.  It seems like the right thing to do, but Phan is now in desperate need of a win having posted a record of just 2-4 in the past three and half years.
