Earlier this week UFC welterweight star Jake Shields received the heart-breaking news that his father Jack Shields had passed away at the age of 67.

The two were said to be extremely close with Shields yesterday describing him as his “best friend.” Not only that but he was in fact his manager as well, and was involved in the negotiations for the former Strikeforce fighter’s current deal with the UFC.

News of his father’s death has left Shields with a dilemma as he’s currently scheduled to headline the ‘UFC Fight Night 25’ event on September 17th dubbed ‘The Battle On The Bayou.’

However, it has now been confirmed that Shields has vowed to remain on the card where he’ll face Jake Ellenberger who’s currently on a four-fight winning streak in the welterweight division.

“He will fight,” Shields trainer Cesar Gracie told MMAWeekly.
