Following last night’s UFC On Versus 6 event Dana White revealed that once again bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz broke his hand during his win over Demetrious Johnson.
Cruz is believed to have broken his left hand early in the fight, but continued to fight on regardless, showing little sign that it was troubling him. That could however explain why he didn’t appear to be at his best in the striking department on the night and ultimately switched to a more wrestling orientated style in order to claim the unanimous decision victory.
The 26 year-old has had issues with his left hand for a number of years and had to undergo surgery for it following his final WEC fight back in December of last year.
Unfortunately he will now have to have surgery again to repair the latest damage, potentially putting him out of action for the rest of the year.
“You should see his hand right now,” White said back stage. “His whole middle of his hand is all swollen. His knuckle looks nasty. He’s going to get surgery next week. (But) I don’t know how long that will keep him out.”
Upon his return Dana White has confirmed that the winner of November’s Urijah Faber Vs Brian Bowles fight is earmarked to be his next opponent.
