In a highly anticipated lightweight match-up at UFC On Versus 5 this evening Donald Cerrone got the better of promising young talent Charles Oliveira.

The early stages of the fight featured an unfortunate moment when a kick from Cerrone connected with Oliviera’s groin forcing a brief stoppage.

When the action resumed it was Cerrone who was on the offensive and he connected cleanly with a straight left before digging to the body with an uppercut that dropped Oliveira.

At first Oliveira looked as if he was ok on the mat, but Cerrone waded in with left and rights that quickly had the Brazilian covering up, and eventually he was forced to turn his back against the relentless barrage of strikes and the referee stepped in to save him further punishment with 3.01mins on the clock.

So not the back and forth dynamic battle that many had been anticipating but an impressive win for Cerrone, taking him to 3-0 since joining the UFC at the start of the year.

It’s a tough night for Oliveira though, and he’s now 0-2 (1nc) in his last three fights despite being one of the most promising up and coming fighters at 155lbs.
