Seven new fighters were today announced for EA Sports MMA, the highly anticipated new video game set for release in the summer of 2010.

The fighters, all of whom are competing at Strikeforce: Evolution this Saturday night, are: Cung Le, Robbie Lawler, Josh Thomson, Gilbert Melendez, Matt Lindland, Scott Smith, and Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza.

Meanwhile UK magazine ‘Fighting Spirit‘ recently spoke to the developers and discovered new information about what we can expect to see in the final game.

Firstly they say that the Japanese promotion DREAM will also feature in the game alongside Strikeforce, and other as yet unnamed organizations. There will also be rings as well as cages included to reflect the preferences of each promotion.

The game will also allow you to use the cage to your advantage, just as in real-life. This was a feature many fans wanted that was missing from the rival game UFC Undisputed 2009 (though THQ, the developer of that game have said that their 2010 version will also include this feature).

Furthermore, the Official Xbox 360 Magazine reveals that you will be able to defend strikes in three different ways – straight block (stopping a strike), parry (deflect a blow, allowing the possibility of a counter-strike) and advanced parry (deflect a blow more forcefully, allowing several strikes).

There’s no doubt that the new EA Sports game is going to be a major competitor for THQ’s UFC Undisputed title in the coming year, and rest assured we’ll keep you up to date with all the latest details as and when they emerge.
