It’s been in development for what seems like an eternity, but the wait is officially over and EA SPORTS MMA is available in stores from today in the U.S, and on the 22nd in the UK.

Along with the release comes the reviews, and so far they are all pretty favorable, praising the games playability and features, though pointing to the lack of depth in terms of fighters as a negative.

GamePro: “Despite lacking the dominate brand in MMA, EA has made a compelling and fun game and has raised the bar for what gamers should expect of their MMA games in the future.” – 4.5/5

Joystiq: “It remains to be seen if there is enough interest to support both franchises, but with the series’ first outing, EA Sports MMA provides not only a must-play experience for fans, but a compelling argument for two-MMA-game world.” – 4/5

Cheat Code Central: “EA Sports MMA is a title that MMA fans should appreciate, and is a refreshing take on the MMA genre.” – 82%

It’ll be interesting to see how the game fares now compared to the already established ‘UFC Undisputed’ series. EA Sports name alone should have a positive influence on sales, but the UFC brand is so closely tied to the sport that it’s absence from the game may cause some gamers to overlook it.
