Despite disappointing sales it appears that EA Sports are not yet ready to throw in the towel as far as the MMA sector goes.

While THQ’s ‘UFC Undisputed’ 2009 title found success with in the region of 3.5 million copies sold worldwide, EA Sports could not replicate anywhere near that with their own debut offering, with one analyst describing it as “DOA” at retail despite generally favorable reviews from the press and gamers alike.

With THQ meanwhile securing an extension to their UFC license things looked bleak for EA MMA’s future, but it appears the company clearly feel this is something worth persevering with.

“There is definitely going to be an EA Sports MMA 2,” EA Sports Associate Producer Jeff Ecker said on the Figure Four podcast earlier this week.

According to Ecker it’s a matter of when, not if, the sequel will emerge.  A best guess would place the second in the series coming out in 2012, or perhaps 2013 at the latest.
