After coming off second best to Clifford Starks in the opening round Ed Herman turned things around with a second round submission tonight at UFC 143.
The first round was a fairly good one for Starks. He landed a big right hand early that momentarily put Herman on one knee, and throughout the round it was his his punches that were landing with greater frequency and with more impact.
Herman’s best moment of the round was a takedown towards the latter stages, but Starks did well to reverse the position and ended the round on top.
Onto round two and they begin by engaging on the feet, but before long Herman again takes the fight to the mat, utlilizing a very well executed trip. Smoothly moving to full mount Herman then gets Starks back and sinks in the rear-naked choke, forcing the tap with 1.43mins of the second round gone.
Herman didn’t look on top form in the first five minutes of this fight, but credit to him for being able to regroup and come up with an answer in the second which extends his current winning run to three fights.
