Two major new bouts have been added to October 8th’s UFC 136 event in Houston today.
First up is the headline attraction of the show, a lightweight title fight as Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard finally get to settle the score for a third time.
Both men have had injury problems since their second encounter back in January which ended with a ‘split draw’ decision which resulted in a long delay for their rubber match, but they have now recovered and ready to do battle.
Also expected on the main card is a middleweight tilt between two Brazilian’s, Demian Maia and Jorge Santiago.
Maia’s striking looked improved in his last fight with Mark Munoz, but he still ended up losing by decision and so he needs to get back in the win column ASAP if he’s to keep his hopes of one day fighting again for the 185lb title alive.
Meanwhile Santiago is in even more desparate need of a win after picking up a KO loss to Brian Stann in his return to the UFC after a successful spell in Japan. Despite his impressive form overseas Santiago has just one win in four UFC fights over the course of his career so his job could be on the line in this challenging match-up.
These two fights will join other previously announced fights, most notably Chael Sonnen Vs Brian Stann at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. A fan expo is also expected to feature in the area prior to the event.
