Following the UFC’s first Versus event two fighters on the card, Eliot Marshall and Shannon Gugerty, have been released by the promotion.

Eliot Marshall’s dismissal comes as somewhat of a surprise considering the former TUF 8 fighter was on a three fight win-streak up in the UFC up until his decision loss to Vladimir Matyushenko on Sunday night.

With his overall record remaining in good shape at 8-2, it seems that Marshall has a reason to feel hard done-by in this instance. Despite that the light-heavyweight vowed to MMAJunkie.com that he would be back in the UFC as soon as possible by winning fights in smaller promotions.

Meanwhile Shannon Gugerty’s contract being terminated is a less surprising decision. His loss to Clay Guida took his UFC record to 2-3, and having now lost his last two fights Gugerty would surely have been bracing himself for bad news after the event.

The 29 year-old fighter walks away from the promotion with a career record of 12-5.
