No question who was the star of last night’s WEC 53 show – Anthony Pettis brought the house down with his last gasp ‘Showtime Kick’, using the cage to rebound into a spinning head kick that dropped Ben Henderson and helped him to seize a unanimous decision victory and become the UFC’s next No.1 contender at lightweight.

The jaw-dropping moment caught the attention of ESPN who put it at No.2 in their top plays of the day, and later conducted an interview with Pettis on ‘First Take’. (Videos coming soon.)

Meanwhile slow-motion video of the kick today featured on the front page of their website and they also produced a brief highlights package of the Henderson Vs Pettis title fight.

As always it’s great exposure for the sport to have the backing of a major player like ESPN. Pettis will be starting to get used to the attention by now given that he’s also been the focus of an episode of MTV’s ‘World Of Jenks’ show earlier in the year. All of which gives him plenty of momentum as he arrives in the UFC and awaits the winner of January’s 1st’s Frankie Edgar Vs Gray Maynard title fight.

Check out the videos from ESPN covering the spectacular kick below…
