Everlast have made further inroads into the mixed martial arts sector this week by announcing an exclusive sponsorship deal with UFC superstar Brock Lesnar.
The multi-deal year comes just a week out from the former champion’s next big fight with Alistair Overeem at UFC 141 and will see him become a spokesman for the company as well as now excusively using Everlast combat sports equipment.
As part of the agreement Lesnar’s own ‘DeathClutch Gym’ in Minnesota was refitted by Everlast, including a new specially fitted 30ft cage.
Primarily known as a boxing based business, Everlast has made significant steps into the MMA market in recent years, including becoming a sponsor for other well known fighters like Randy Couture and Jon Jones along with one of the sport’s leading promotion’s Bellator Fighting Championships.
Being associated with Lesnar, who attracts a lot of media attention and is the UFC’s leading pay-per-view draw makes a lot of sense for the company, though it’s not without it’s risks as the former wrestler has had a troubled couple of years due to his battles with the career-threatening Diverticulitis illness.
That’s left him out of action for almost an entire year, but despite rumors that he may opt to quit the sport Lesnar is about to make his long awaited return to the Octagon on December 30th and insists that he is fully committed to both the UFC and getting his heavyweight title back.
