Despite a three fight losing streak heavyweight superstar Fedor Emelianenko is not ready to hang up his gloves just yet, and his next fight has now been confirmed for November 12th in Russia.

We also now know his opponent will be another MMA veteran, Jeff Monson. Monson was last seen competing against Daniel Cormier for Strikeforce in June, a fight he lost by unanimous decision.

Before that Monson had been very active on the local circuit, taking as many fights as he could get his hands on, and compiling an eight fight winning streak along the way. His overall MMA record now stands at 42-12.

On paper this looks like fight that can get Emelianenko back to winning ways, but it’s good to see that M-1 Global have chosen a fighter with some name recognition who at least has some hope of emerging victorious against their golden boy.

Ideally I’d have liked to have seen him face Gabriel Gonzaga who was also rumored as an opponent at one stage, though Monson is definitely a better choice than others that had been suggested such as Kevin Randleman.

The event will take place on the same day as ‘UFC On FOX 1’, but time differences should hopefully ensure that the two heavyweight battles don’t overlap.
