Fedor Emelianenko received a brutal beatdown tonight in a fight that may well have brought an end to his MMA career.
The Russian star was at a huge size disadvantage on the night, with ‘Big Foot’ Silva stepping into the cage weighing 285lbs, some 55lbs heavier than Fedor.
That made all the difference when the Brazilian took him down in the second round and began landing punishing blows from the mount, leaving Fedor’s face battered and bruised, with his right eye completely swollen shut.
Unable to see out of that eye the referee was forced to call a halt to the contest in-between the 2nd and 3rd rounds.
Check out the picture below and you’ll see that the doctor made the right call. Needless to say he was taken to the hospital after the fight.
There’s no question Fedor would have fought on, but he would only have endured further punishment against the bigger, heavier Silva if he had.
