It’s official, Fedor Emelianenko will fight at DREAM’s New Years Eve event.
The Russian heavyweight star will face Japanese Olympic gold medalist Satoshi Ishii who’s currently 4-1-1 in MMA competition and holds notable wins over Minowaman and Jerome Le Banner and most recently a draw against Paulo Filho.
This will mark Fedor’s first fight in Japan since December of 2007 when he took just 1.54mins to submit Japanese giant Hong-Man Choi.
At that stage ‘The Last Emperor’ was still unbeaten in well over 20 fights, but he has hit upon tougher times of late, losing three of his last four fights.
That lead to Fedor’s stock dropping significantly and he was released from his Strikeforce contract earlier this year after failing to make it past the opening stage of their heavyweight Grand-Prix, but he’s still a fighter who attracts interest and he’ll be one of the biggest international stars that DREAM have been able to bring to Japan in well over a year since they hit upon financial difficulties.
