Well it took long enough, but finally Fedor Emelianenko’s next fight has been set. The Russian superstar will face Antonio Silva at a Strikeforce event on February 12th.
The news comes from Sherdog.com who confirm the fight will serve as the main event and will form one of two quarter finals on the night for the long rumored Strikeforce heavyweight tournament.
The other is expected to see former UFC fighters Andrei Arlovski and Josh Barnett square off against each other. There’s also speculation that Fabricio Werdum Vs Brett Rogers will fight on March 5th as part of the tournament with a fourth quarter final still to be established.
The major name so far missing from the line-up is current Strikeforce champion Alistair Overeem who had a remarkable 2010 in which he defended his Strikeforce title before going on to claim the K-1 World Grand-Prix 2010 title and then the DREAM interim heavyweight belt.
Overall this is exciting news, and also indicates that Strikeforce may have finally agreed a new deal with Fedor and his management M-1 Global since he only has one fight left on his current deal.
