Former UFC lightweight fighter Hermes Franca has been jailed for 42 months after pleading guilty to sexually abusing an underage female who was taking classes at his gym in Oregon.

As a result of his plea deal a further six counts of first degree sexual abuse and one count of unlawful sexual penetration were dismissed by the court.

When the 37 year-old’s prison sentence comes to an end in three and a half years time he will then also have to register as a sex offender and will be on probation for a further four a a half years.

Franca fought for the UFC up until September of 2009 before being released after losing three of his last four fights.

He attempted to continue his career outside of the promotion, but struggled to find the form that had at one stage lead to him fighting for the UFC’s lightweight title, and produced a 3-4 (1nc) record up until April of 2011 when he declared his retirement from the sport after a knockout loss.
