Former UFC Fighter Maiquel Falcao Recovering After Heart Attack

Former UFC middleweight fighter Maiquel Falcao is recovering in hospital after suffering a heart attack on Sunday in his native Brazil.

“His wife told me he suddenly suffered from a huge pain in the chest, and when they got into the hospital the doctors concluded he had a myocardial infarction,” Falcao’s manager Marcelo Brigadeiro told Sherdog.com. “The procedure is expected to happen late this Wednesday. If Falcao didn’t go to the hospital as fast as he did, he would have died.”

The 30 year-old fought for the UFC late last year and won in his debut against Gerald Harris, but was then cut from the promotion after he was arrested soon after back home in Brazil for an assault charge dating back to 2002.

‘Big Rig’ has moved forward since then though and recently signed a deal with Bellator Fighting Championships.

Brigadeiro believes there is a good chance Falcao will fight again, but for now, “We are just focusing on getting him healthy.”
