Former UFC fighter Ridrigo ‘Monstro’ Gioano de Lima has been killed in a hit and run incident in Brazil at the age of 28.
‘Monstro’ is reported to have been in a car with four other people when the Uber driver took exception to the tone of one of the other passengers voice and asked for silence.
This apparently angered de Lima enough that he punched the driver, who then stopped the car and all the passengers got out.
However, rather than heading off, the driver is then alleged to have drove his car at Monstro as he headed towards a nearby gas station, running the fighter over and killing him, before speeding off.
A suspect has since been identified, but as yet has not been arrested.
Monstro had amassed an 8-1-1 record by the time he joined the UFC in 2014, and would go on to compete twice in the Octagon, picking up losses against Neil Magny and Efrain Escudero before being released in 2015.
De Lima then had a three year absence from competing, but returned last year to claim a first round submission victory in the Shooto Brazil promotion, taking his overall career record to 9-3-1.
