At tonight’s UFC 130 press conference in Las Vegas, UFC President Dana White stated that if possible they would like to put together a title fight between current 205lb champion Jon Jones and tonight’s main event winner Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson, noting that he wants to keep the volatile star busy.
There’s only one problem – the fact that Rampage claims to have a fractured hand. According to the former champion he hurt it while drunkenly larking around with a friend in Japan back in December, and then hurt it again during training for his fight with Matt Hamill.
A visit to a doctor confirmed the hand was fractured, but Jackson says he took the decision to take the fight regardless.
It seems that the UFC will now get Rampage’s hand checked out by another doctor in the coming week to confirm the extent of the damage, and that will decide whether a fight between Jones and himself can take place.
For his part Rampage appears eager to take the fight and insists he’ll “keep going” regardless of the condition of his hand if he can get a shot at the title which he says he still feels is rightfully his.
The decision may not be his to make though depending on the doctor’s report, and if he is ruled out then recent rumors would suggest that Lyoto Machida would take his place.
