Despite Dana White’s earlier statement that Brock Lesnar and Frank Mir were on the shortlist for a coaching stint on TUF season 13, it’s since emerged that Mir is being targeted to fight Brendan Schaub instead.

According to the MMAJunkie site Mir Vs Schaub is expected to take place in March, either at UFC On Versus 3 on March 3rd, or UFC 129 on March 19th.

In recent times the two heavyweight’s have been talking up a fight with each other, starting off with Schaub who brought up the former champion’s name at the UFC 121 post-fight press conference following a win over Gabriel Gonzaga.

The news leaves Lesnar without an opponent, and with Shane Carwin out injured and Roy Nelson embroiled in a contract dispute with another promotion which will keep him out of action for some time, the former champion’s options are limited.

There is however talk that Stefan Struve, who picked up a win in the co-main event of Saturday’s UFC 124 event, could be targeted instead.  When asked by Ariel Helwani following the event whether Struve was ready to join the likes of Carwin and Lesnar in the upper reaches of the heavyweight division, UFC president Dana White agreed that he was.

With White expected to meet with Lesnar in the near future to discuss his next fight we should know for sure one way or the other before long.
